Liz Nielsen (b. 1975 in Ashland, WI) received her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Illinois Chicago, Chicago, IL; her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL; and her Bachelor of Arts from Seattle University, Seattle, WA.
She has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Art Austerlitz, Austerlitz, NY; Black Box Projects, London, United Kingdom; Danziger Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; David B. Smith Gallery, Denver, CO; The Dutch Reformed Church, Newburgh, NY; Hexton Gallery, Aspen, CO; Miles McEnery Gallery, New York, NY; Over the Influence, Los Angeles, CA; and SOCO Gallery, Charlotte, NC, among others. Additionally in 2026, MTA Arts & Design Program commissioned Nielsen to exhibit at Grand Central Madison, New York, NY.

The twenty monumental photograms comprising Liz Nielsen’s show here, “I’d Like to Imagine You’re in a Place Like This,” are like mosaics of liquefied jewels. The artist refers to them as “light paintings,” and her early training in painting and printmaking certainly shines through.
