Press Release

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – AMERINGER | McENERY | YOHE is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent works by Tracy Miller. The exhibition will open on 16 February and remain on view through 18 March 2017. A public reception for the artist will be held on Thursday 16 February from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Tracy Miller’s paintings are exuberant expressions of color and pattern, filled with layered washes and thick splotches of bright hues. This calculated chaos gives her work a dynamic energy that pulses behind elements of still life.

Wry illustrations of food, flowers, and other everyday objects float amidst these bursts of vibrant color. Her compositions often feature classic American confections—candy bar wrappers peek from the edges of canvases while a swirl of white paint marks a Hostess cupcake. A deck of cards, a stack of glistening donuts, bursts of blooms in porcelain pots, and cakes in various pastel shades sit unanchored on her riotous backgrounds.

In a departure from the traditions of still life, Miller’s paintings are devoid of overt references to death and decay—she prefers displays of dreamlike decadence. Her inventive works undeniably express the joy that she finds in painting.

TRACY MILLER (b. 1966 in Storm Lake, IA) received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1989 from The University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA, and received her Master of Fine Arts degree in 1993 from The University of California at Berkeley, Berkeley, CA.
