Stephen Dean is a French-American artist based in New York City whose work summons the mesmerizing physiological and cultural qualities of color. He employs a visual language that explores the saturated edge of the color spectrum through large-scale celebratory videos, sculptures and works on paper.

Dean and Swatch have collaborated at several occasions and most notably with the realization of a box set of 5 limited edition watches " painted time".

His work has been exhibited at national and international institutions including: MAXXI, Rome, IT; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, CA; National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC; Musée du Quai Branly, Paris, FR; Tinguely Museum, Basel; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA; WA; Miami Art Museum, Miami, FL; among others.

He has also participated in numerous biennials around the world, including the Moscow Biennial (2009), SITE Santa Fe Biennial (2006), 51st Venice Biennale (2005), the Sevilla Biennial (2004), the Istanbul Biennial (2003), and the Whitney Biennial (2002).

Dean’s work is included in public and private collections including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY; the Whitney Museum of Art, New York, NY; the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC; Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, CT; the Fond National d’Art Contemporain, Paris, FR; Fondacion la Caixa, Barcelona, ES; the Fundacion Jumex, Mexico City, MX; and others.

Architectural Digest, The New York Times, Art in America, VOGUE, Flash Art, Beaux-Arts Magazine, The Washington Post, Liberation among other publications have featured his works.
