Press Release

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – AMERINGER | McENERY | YOHE is pleased to announce its second solo exhibition of paintings by David Allan Peters. The exhibition will open on 19 March and will remain on view through 18 April 2015.  A public reception for the artist will be held on 19 March from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

David Allan Peters’ tactile works vibrate with color and each excavated cavern attests to the artist’s time spent applying paper-thin layers of acrylic paint to each wooden panel.

What appear to be the marks of a brushstroke on the surface of Peters’ paintings are topographical-like reliefs, the result of Peters plunging into the depths of each painting with a linocut knife.  These works challenge the basic understanding of painting and sculpting as Peters pushes the boundaries of acrylic paint and traditional painting processes.

His highly physical method of building layers of paint before cutting away and deconstructing each painting lends to the overall richness of each work and the harmony that is discovered among colors.

David Allan Peters was born in Cupertino, California, in 1969.  He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the San Francisco Art Institute in San Francisco, CA, and his Master of Fine Arts degree from Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, CA.

He has had numerous solo exhibitions, including “Super Optic,” Chandra Cerrito Contemporary, Oakland, CA; “David Allan Peters,” Royale Projects: Contemporary Art, Palm Desert, CA; “Paintings,” Marc Arranaga Contemporary Art, New York, NY; “Integrity Spiral,” Ruth Bachofner Gallery, Santa Monica, CA; and an MFA Exhibition, Peggy Phelps Gallery, Claremont, CA.

Recent group exhibitions include “Aftermath Post-Minimal Abstraction,” Chandra Cerrito Contemporary, Oakland, CA; “Looking Back at Tomorrow,” Royale Projects: Contemporary Art, Palm Desert, CA; “Fresh,” Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA; “Letters from Los Angeles,” Jack Rutberg Fine Arts, Los Angeles, CA; “Deep Paint,” curated by Anne Martens and Jayna Zweiman, at Hudson | Linc, Los Angeles, CA; “Palette to Palate,” Laguna Art Museum, Laguna, CA; and “Spectrum,” Kellogg Gallery, Cal Poly Pomona, Pomona, CA.  Peters received the Nora Bartine Memorial Award from De Anza College, Cupertino, CA, in 1994.

The artist was featured in the December 2014 issue of Elle Décor.

Peters currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
